Heartbreaking news: Janique Venter

Today, we sadly bring you an update on brave warrior princess, Janique Venter.

The tumor has returned in her neck and has already spread to her brain. A highly qualified surgeon in Cape Town will be operating on her early in November. This will not be a once-off procedure, but rather a very difficult and ongoing journey for Janique and her parents.

Previous chemotherapy and radiation treatments unfortunately did not work, and the only way forward is through repeated surgeries to keep removing the tumor until it is completely gone.

We ask our community to please surround Janique and her parents in prayer like never before. These operations come with serious risks, and our prayer is that God will protect Janique and carry her through safely. She has already endured so much pain and trauma, yet she continues to shine with a spirit of strength and courage that inspires us all.

We will share further updates as they are received. In the meantime, we respectfully ask that her parents be given the space to process this heartbreaking news.

Please keep Janique in your thoughts and prayers, there is true power in prayer.

Let’s Make Janique’s 8th Birthday Unforgettable

Janique, is turning 8 years old on the 10th of November.

After receiving the devastating news that new tumors have formed, her surgeon has decided to do her next operation the week after her birthday so that she can still enjoy her special day and experience the pure joy every child deserves.

Janique has endured more than most adults ever will. Yet, her courage, laughter, and gentle spirit continue to inspire everyone around her.

This year, we want to give her a birthday filled with love, smiles, and fun, a day she will never forget before beginning her next brave battle.

We invite our community to come together to make Janique’s birthday extra special. Every contribution, big or small, will go towards creating a day filled with joy and beautiful memories for our little princess.

An Urgent Plea for Little Jordan: Facing Two Life-Altering Diagnoses

Jordan Fundraiser

Jordan (4 y/o) is a beloved foster child who has been with his primary caregiver since he was a baby of six and a half months. Throughout his young life, Jordan has been plagued by illness, leading to more than 14 hospitalizations for issues concerning his lungs and stomach. His foster family has always known that something was seriously wrong, and earlier this year, their fears were confirmed with not one, but two life-altering diagnoses.

In March, the family learned Jordan has Arnold Chiari Malformation, a condition where brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. Then, in June, they received the devastating news that he also has Cystic Fibrosis (CF). This is a lot for any family to process, especially as they navigated a regimen of extensive medication and preparation for Jordan to undergo his first major surgery – a crucial brain operation on the 12th of September 2025.

The Overwhelming Cost of Care

While Jordan is surrounded by a caring foster/adopting family, the financial burden of his ongoing medical needs is overwhelming. His foster parent does have medical aid, but it does not cover all the bills, and the family’s savings are completely depleted.

They are currently blessed to receive some necessary medications, like Creon, from the Johannesburg Clinic, but the most critical financial hurdle is the cost of medication for his Cystic Fibrosis. The life-saving drug Trikafta, cost R33,333 per month, which is not covered as a chronic medication by medical aid. This is simply unattainable.

As it stands, the foster parent pays all doctors’ bills and other incidental costs in cash, highlighting the family’s current struggle to provide everything Jordan needs.

How You Can Help

Little Jordan is a lovely boy whose family is taking excellent care of him, but they cannot do this alone. They need immediate financial assistance to cover the soaring costs of his medications, treatment, and long-term care.

If Jordan’s story has touched your heart, please consider making a donation today. Every donation, no matter the size, will directly support his fight against these two serious conditions, offering him the chance for a healthier, more stable future. Each contribution moves this loving family closer to securing the funds needed for his life-saving medication.

We have also launched a heartfelt bracelet project to help raise funds for his ongoing medical expenses to further support his journey.

Standing with Zelnay: Rallying Support for a Young Leukemia Warrior

An 8-year-old girl named Zelnay Liebenberg from Brakpan, Gauteng, is facing a difficult battle. At the end of April, Zelnay received a diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and was placed in the high-risk group. This diagnosis has meant frequent hospital admissions and strong chemotherapy treatments, taking an immense physical and emotional toll on this brave little girl.

Zelnay’s health struggles began in late March 2025 when she started feeling unwell. Her parents initially took her to a doctor who suspected iron deficiency and inflammatory arthritis, prescribing pain medication. However, Zelnay’s symptoms – terrible leg pain and a sore stomach – persisted. After more tests, a lumbar puncture, and a bone marrow test, the family received the devastating news on the 1st of May, that Zelnay had leukemia. She was admitted to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital two days later to begin her fight.

Since then, she has undergone numerous procedures. To make the process easier and spare her from daily needle pricks, Zelnay recently received a port. The treatment has been difficult, causing severe nausea and vomiting, but throughout it all, she remains incredibly brave. Her family describes her as a bright, kind-hearted girl with a precious personality and a smile that can light up any room.

The Financial Strain of a Critical Illness

Zelnay’s medical journey has placed a significant financial burden on her family. Without medical aid, they are shouldering the costs of her extensive care. A bill from Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital has already reached almost R20,000 since her diagnosis, adding immense stress to an already difficult time. Her parents have also had to take unpaid leave and cover the costs of transportation to and from the hospital for her treatments.

How You Can Help

The family is reaching out with heavy hearts but hopeful spirits, asking for support from their community. They believe that with the help of others, they can ease the financial burden and allow Zelnay to focus on what matters most: her health and recovery.

If Zelnay’s story has touched your heart, please consider making a donation today to help ensure she receives the continuous care she needs. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference in her life and bring hope and relief to a family in desperate need. The goal is to raise funds to help cover her ongoing medical expenses (treatments, specialist care, other special needs). We have also launched a heartfelt bracelet project to help raise funds for her ongoing medical expenses to further support her journey.

The Power of Community: Supporting Amy Klopper’s Aplastic Anemia Battle

fundraiser amy klopper arms of mercy npc

Amy Klopper, a resilient four-year-old girl, was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia in early January 2025 at Donald Gordon Hospital. Her treatment is overseen by Dr. Nandipha Sigedle. This rare and serious condition has required Amy to undergo frequent blood and platelet transfusions, as well as regular bone marrow biopsies. Her ongoing treatment includes Eltrombopag (Revolade), a costly medication that stimulates her bone marrow, along with Cyclosporine, Anviro antibiotics, and Bactrim twice a week.

The family’s life has been a whirlwind of hospital visits, emergency admissions, and specialist consultations, often on short notice.

Thanks to an outpouring of support from their community, the family was able to upgrade Amy’s medical aid to the Momentum incentive option, which now helps cover the cost of Revolade. However, their medical savings are completely depleted. The family continues to face significant financial strain, as all other expenses—including additional medications, transport, and specialist visits—are paid for out-of-pocket. Amy sees her doctor every two weeks for blood and platelet transfusions, depending on the results of her blood tests. She has also received ATG (anti-thymocyte globulin) treatment, which is slowly helping her show signs of improvement.

How You Can Help

Despite this progress, Amy’s recovery is still delicate and requires active management. The family is grateful for every small victory but recognises that their journey is far from over. They are actively fundraising and managing Amy’s care while trying to hold their family together. They have reached out to Arms of Mercy to partner with them to help carry the financial burden of Amy’s continued treatment and recovery. A stem cell donor is currently on standby should her condition take a turn for the worse.

If Amy’s story has touched your heart, please consider making a donation today to help the family and ensure she receives the continuous care she needs to fight this rare, life-threatening condition. Every donation, no matter the size, directly contributes to Amy’s ability to continue her fight. We have also launched a heartfelt bracelet project to help raise funds for her ongoing medical expenses to further support her journey.

Help Pieter van Tonder Take His Next Steps

fundraising for pieter van tonder - arms of mercy npc

We are reaching out today with an urgent plea for Pieter van Tonder. His journey has been anything but ordinary, and he needs your support to continue his fight for a brighter future.

Pieter was born tiny but healthy. However, just four days later, he was admitted to MediClinic Bloemfontein with severe jaundice. After a week, he was discharged, only to return three days later to the NICU. During a blood transfusion, Pieter’s heart stopped. For 7.5 agonising minutes, doctors worked to resuscitate him, and thankfully, they brought him back, but the ordeal left him with brain damage.

Early scans were devastating, indicating Pieter might never move or even feed. Yet, this incredible boy defied those predictions. After 26 days in the NICU, he came home, able to feed, hear, and see – proving everyone wrong.

Now, at three years old, Pieter faces daily challenges due to spastic hemiplegia, a form of cerebral palsy. While his right hand has improved with therapy, his legs are spastic, and he has drop feet. He is currently in physiotherapy and desperately needs MVOs (Molded Ankle Foot Orthoses) and a reverse walker to learn to walk. These aren’t luxuries; they are important tools for his development and independence.

Despite everything, Pieter is an amazing, vibrant boy. He communicates in three languages, attends a regular preschool, and navigates his world with incredible determination, whether crawling or riding his toy motorcycle. He is loving, expressive, and a true testament to resilience.

How You Can Help

The hard truth is, Pieter’s family does not have medical aid, and the ongoing costs of his therapies, equipment, and specialist appointments are overwhelming for them. They are a family of modest means, and they are now turning to their community for help.

Please, if you can, consider donating to Pieter’s medical fund. Your contribution, no matter the amount, will make a direct and tangible difference in his life, allowing his family to continue his treatment and give him every opportunity to thrive. We have also launched a heartfelt bracelet project to help raise funds for his ongoing medical expenses to further support his journey. You can find his “Step by Step Bracelets” in our online store.

Be Elliatt’s Hero: Help Cover the Costs of His Crucial Medical Care

Be a Hero for Elliatt Strauss

Elliatt Strauss( 2 years old) has a rare genetic condition called Diamond-Blackfan Anemia (DBA). This disorder affects his bone marrow, which means his body cannot produce enough red blood cells. Because of this, Elliatt has needed blood transfusions every three weeks since he was only one month old. He has already had more than 8 operations and has received over 30 bags of blood. He has been in the hospital for 8 months now, currently staying at Rondebosch Medical Centre in Cape Town.

Brave little Elliatt is currently fighting a tough battle while on the GEMS Ruby medical aid plan. While this coverage helps with many of his medical needs, the reality is that several co-payments and frustrating shortfalls leave his parents facing significant out-of-pocket expenses.

Every three weeks, Elliatt needs vital blood transfusions to keep him stable and strong. These transfusions, while life-saving, have led to high iron levels in his little body. To combat this, he is on very costly iron-chelating medication. When the day arrives that his iron levels stabilize enough, he wil undergo a bone marrow transplant which is the next crucial step on his journey to recovery.

Elliatt also needs therapies like physiotherapy, and potentially others, to help him regain strength after his long hospital stay. Sadly, these have had to be put on hold while he focuses on getting stronger.

As you can imagine, the mounting medical bills are a heavy burden on the family, on top of the emotional and physical toll of Elliatt’s illness. We are reaching out with hopeful hearts, asking for your support in helping us cover these essential medical costs. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a tangible difference in Elliatt’s life, bringing him closer to the day he can receive his bone marrow transplant and begin his journey towards a healthier future

We believe in the strength and compassion of our Arms of Mercy community. If Elliatt’s story has touched your heart, please consider making a donation using the banking details below. We have also launched a heartfelt bracelet project to help raise funds for his ongoing medical expenses to further support his journey. Thank you for considering standing alongside Elliatt in his fight. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Beyond Sight: Supporting Ayva-Lee’s Fight Against Severe Epilepsy

Arms of Mercy NPC Fundraiser Ayva-Lee Engelbrecht

Our hearts are heavy as we share the story of precious five-month-old Ayva-Lee Engelbrecht, recently diagnosed with a severe and rare form of cerebral epilepsy. Adding to this, our little princess is also blind, her world limited to the perception of light. This devastating news has turned her loving family’s lives upside down.

Initial tests indicate Ayva-Lee’s epilepsy is likely neurological, a more complex and challenging path than a metabolic condition. The crucial chromosome and genetic test results that will provide a clearer understanding are still pending and will take time. In the meantime, doctors are diligently adjusting her medication, hoping to achieve stability. The longing to return home to her son and husband weighs heavily on Ayva-Lee’s devoted mommy, Alicia, who remains by her side in the hospital, waiting for at least three seizure-free days.

Once the vital test results are in, neurologist Dr. Aduc will provide a detailed explanation of Ayva-Lee’s condition and guide the next steps. Her mommy had to step away from her job to provide the constant care Ayva-Lee needs, placing immense emotional and financial pressure on the family.

While she remains in the hospital, we are incredibly relieved that her current medication is working well. The plan upon their return home involves careful monitoring and gradual adjustments to her treatment, including at-home EEG monitoring, allowing Ayva-Lee to be in the comfort of her own bed.

We believe in the strength and compassion of our Arms of Mercy community. Please, will you stand with us for Ayva-Lee? Your support can help this little princess get the answers she desperately needs and access the best possible treatment.

If Ayva-Lee’s story has touched your heart, please consider making a donation using the banking details below. We have also launched a heartfelt bracelet project to help raise funds for her ongoing medical expenses to further support her journey. Please keep baby Ayva-Lee and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Eliana’s Fight: A Plea for Hope and Healing

eliana's journey fundraiser arms of mercy

Our faith remains strong: God is in control.

Eliana Snyders, born healthy, began experiencing alarming startle movements at just weeks old. Diagnosed with infantile spasms and hypsarrhythmia (epilepsy), her journey has been a relentless battle. What we believed was a victory over the initial diagnosis quickly turned into a series of escalating seizures, breathing difficulties, and emergency hospitalizations.

Insurance hurdles compounded our distress. We faced a R162,500 loan to secure Eliana’s critical ICU care when insurance denied coverage. During her extended hospital stay, we were told three times to prepare for the worst. Doctors diagnosed catastrophic, drug-resistant epilepsy and identified brain stem damage. Eliana now relies on a feeding tube and oxygen.

Despite these challenges, a miracle occurred: her seizures lessened. However, setbacks persist, with recurring cycles of seizures. We’ve added specialized medication, navigating complex approvals and out-of-pocket expenses due to insurance exclusions.

Eliana needs a PEG tube for safe feeding and medication administration, a crucial step toward exploring a ketogenic diet, which offers potential relief. The estimated R200,000 surgery must be paid in cash.

At nearly nine months old, Eliana’s development is that of a newborn. She hasn’t experienced laughter, play, or typical milestones. Furthermore, my employment was terminated in totality, impacting our finances further to care for Eliana and manage her extensive medical team.

We believe in Eliana’s healing and the purpose of her life. We trust God will provide the necessary resources. Eliana’s story will be a testament to His greatness.

How You Can Hep

We urgently need financial assistance to cover Eliana’s PEG tube surgery, ongoing medical expenses, and specialized therapies (Palliative Dr, Pediatrician, Neurologist, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Neuro-Physiotherapist, Pediatric Surgeon, and Dietician).

Your generous support will provide Eliana with the chance to access potentially life-saving treatments and improve her quality of life.

Please join us in supporting Eliana’s fight. Your prayers, shares, and donations make a world of difference.

janique venter

With hearts full of gratitude, we stand in awe of God’s incredible grace and power, lifting His name in praise for the miracles He continues to perform in our lives.

Today, we share life-changing news that fills us with hope: Janique Venter is preparing to travel to Texas for a critical operation to remove her ganglioneuroma tumor—a procedure not available in South Africa.

This evening (7/01/2025), Janique’ s family will head to Cape Town to apply for their visas. With God’s provision and your prayers, once approved, they will board a flight to Texas to give their precious little girl the vital chance for complete healing. I’m absolutely delighted to finally meet Janique and her parents for the very first time!

What a testament to faith and perseverance! We serve a God who still works miracles, and we trust fully in His perfect plan for Janique’ s life.

As they embark on this challenging yet hopeful journey, we humbly ask for your continued support. Donations can be made directly to Janique’s account, or you can use the provided donation platforms, and we will ensure the funds are transferred directly to the family. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps bring Janique closer to the bright future she so deeply deserves.

Thank you for standing by us over the years. Your prayers, generosity, and unwavering belief in the power of hope have made all the difference. This is the best news 2025 coud bring us – this is Janique’s year of healing and full restoration.

In Loving Memory: Joshua Nel – 04/01/2025

It is with immense sadness that I must share the news that Joshua has gone to be with our Lord Jesus. While his absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and loved ones, we know that today is a day of great joy in heaven.

Joshua’s life was a beacon of strength and purpose, guided by his steadfast principles of “Freedom of choice and dignity above all.” He lived and fought with unwavering courage, and his faith remained resolute, even through his battle with brain cancer. His journey, marked by an incredible spirit and profound resilience, touched all who knew him.

The past few months have been especially heartbreaking for his parents, who walked every step with him in love and support. We ask that you keep this grieving family in your prayers, as they will need strength and comfort now more than ever. Vanessa, in particular, will lean on our support in the days to come, and we stand by her and the family with open hearts.

On behalf of Arms of Mercy, we extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy. Joshua’s legacy of faith and bravery will remain with us, inspiring hope and compassion for all.

We will keep everyone updated on funeral arrangements and provide details as they become available. Let us hold Joshua’s memory close, honoring the beautiful soul and faithful fighter he was till the very end.
