Bridging the Gap for Matome Legodi: Your Kindness Helps a Brave Boy’s Fight Against Cancer

Fundraiser for Matome Legodi Kidney Cancer

At just four years old, little Matome Legodi from Polokwane, Limpopo, is facing a battle no child should ever have to endure. Recently diagnosed with kidney cancer (Nephroblastoma), his life changed overnight as he was thrust into a grueling schedule of chemotherapy. This culminated in a complex, six-hour major surgery to remove his left kidney and treat his heart. After a courageous two-week stay in the Intensive Care Unit and further time in the general ward, Matome was finally able to return home, but his journey is far from over.

Matome is currently undergoing an intensive 27-week post-operative chemotherapy programme, requiring weekly trips from Polokwane to Unitas Hospital in Centurion. In addition to this exhausting routine, he has recently completed a consecutive 10-day course of radiation treatment.

To add to his challenges, Matome suffered a severe IV infiltration injury to his right hand from a drip. This required two separate surgeries, including a skin graft, and he now needs ongoing occupational therapy (OT) to regain the use of his hand.

Medical Fundraiser – How You Can Help

While Matome’s family is doing everything they can, the financial strain is immense as the medical aid unfortunately does not cover everything. They are currently facing shortfalls of over R20,000.00 for essential expenses, including critical medications, sedation medication required for his radiation treatments, and occupational therapy sessions for his hand rehabilitation.

If Matome’s story has touched your heart, please consider making a donation today. Every donation, no matter the size, will directly ease the financial burden on Matome’s parents, allowing them to focus entirely on comforting their brave little boy. Please consider donating to Matome’s recovery fund today and sharing his story.

We have also launched a heartfelt bracelet project to help raise funds for his ongoing medical expenses.
