NEW CHD Awareness Bracelets for Sebastian Stoman – Congenital Heart Defects
Sebastian Stoman was born on the 21st of March 2019, 8 weeks early. He was airlifted from Bethlehem Medi Clinic to Bloemfontein Medi Clinic at 9 days old where he was diagnosed with 2 “Congenital Heart Defects”.
CHD-Coarctation; Aortic valve stenosis
The next day he had an emergency Angiogram, and got a stent in his aorta to open the constriction and to stretch his aortic valve. He spent 40 days in the ICU. He is now also diagnosed with “sub aortic stenosis” and will soon need an open heart surgery to correct it.
On the 2nd of July 2019, Sebastian went in for surgery and the doctor decided to postpone the open heart surgery. Prof. Brown was able to sort out most problems for now, he put in a second stent and stretched the valve a little. There is a membrane that is busy growing, but the aorta was quite closed on the other side of the stent. He thinks it is rather the reason that the heart has worked so hard and enlarged again, and wants Sebastian to grow as much as possible before operating to ensure the operation’s success. Sebastian will have to get more than one open heart surgery to sort out all the problems in his heart in the future.
Although they have a good medical aid that will pay for the procedures, they are still short on accommodation and travel funds to Cape Town.
Together we can make a difference in Sebastian`s life and give him a chance at a brighter future. You can help by supporting our bracelet fundraising initiative, details below.
