Fundraising for Samantha Hayes – Diabetes, Heart Problems, Bilateral Amputee

Samantha Hayes

Samantha`s story:

Samantha Hayes was an independent mother who was working at Spar when her diabetes turned for the worse. A minor scar on her foot that did not want to heal made her visit her GP; since then she has been facing tremendous challenges.

They found that she had heart problems and underwent a heart bypass. From there on, she lost both her legs. She was recently in hospital as her second leg had to be amputated even further due to a severe infection. Samantha had three amputations in less than a year. She could not receive anesthesia with the first two amputations due to her heart condition and underwent two amputations with only an epidural. She heard each bit of noise while they amputated her first leg and even saw something that would give the toughest man sleepless nights.

Samantha was always strong, but life broke her. She needs medical assistance, and her entire home must be modified to help her get along without legs. Her job is also in severe jeopardy, and the future does not look good for her. She has medical aid, but a tremendous amount of co-payments. She needs physiotherapy, pain management, wound care, and in the future, a pair of prosthetic legs in order for her to carry on with her life.

By supporting our fundraiser for Samantha you can be directly involved in making a positive difference in her life. All proceeds from the “Faith over Fear” bracelets are donated towards her ongoing medical care and expenses. Together we CAN change the world!

Alternatively, please consider a donation; any and all donations welcome. REF: Samantha Hayes.

Fundraising for Amoré van der Westhuizen – Type 1 Diabetes

Amoré van der Westhuizen

Amoré`s story:

Amoré was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes – a condition in which your immune system destroys insulin-making cells in your pancreas, when she was one year old. She has had ‘seizures’ 3 times in the past 2 years where mom had to rush her to the hospital.

Her insulin levels are still very unstable, and she is currently using Actrapid and Protaphane Insulin which she has to inject 5 times a day. The units depend on how high her sugar level is. Amoré has a diet plan that she must strictly follow, but due to financial circumstances it is impossible for her mom who is a single-parent. Her father passed away when she was 3 years old and there is only mom’s salary to cover all their monthly expenses. Her insulin levels will not get under control if she does not follow a strict diabetic diet developed by a dietitian.

Following a healthy lifestyle to prevent heart disease and control blood sugar are the best things people with type 1 diabetes can do to live a long and healthy life. Please open your heart and support our fundraising efforts for Amoré – all proceeds from the “Rooted in Love” bracelets are donated towards her dietary needs and her ongoing medical care and expenses. Together we CAN make a positive difference and help a child in need!
