Fundraising for Stefan Du Toit – Mowat Wilson Syndrome

Stefan`s story:

Stefan du Toit is a 3 year old boy who was diagnosed with Mowat-Wilson Syndrome – a genetic disorder that affects the brain, bowel and motor development of a child. Stefan presents with weakness of his trunk, difficulty in taking weight through his hands and feet, and poor integration of the body due to neurological complications.

He is able to sit and is starting to show motivation to crawl. He presents with global developmental delay, is unable to stand unsupported and is not yet able to move around independently.

Stefan would benefit from a standing frame at this stage to assist with weight bearing through the lower limbs, improved bowel function and improved position for eating and interacting with his environment. A standing frame also assists with maintaining bone density as well as preventing shortening of muscles in the legs and feet. Good postural positioning throughout the day and night is very important to prevent secondary complications and to assist with improving functional outcomes. It is recommended that he stands in a standing frame daily.

Though Stefan has gone through a lot and will still go through much more as he continues to struggle to meet all his milestones, he is a happy little boy that always has a smile on his face.

Please open your heart and help us to raise funds for Stefan – together we can change his world, one bracelet at a time!
