Fundraising for Marno Van As – Myotonic Dystrophy

Marno van As

Marno`s story:

Marno van As was born at 34 weeks on the 28th of March 2018. He was born with club feet, and had to stay in NICU for the next 3 weeks. From 4 weeks up to 4 months, Marno was in casts, and then went for his first operation to straighten his feet.

Once noticed that there was something wrong, he was taken to a Neurologist who performed a test on both, Marno, and his mother, confirming that they both have Myotonic Dystrophy. This s a very serious disease and there is currently no cure; treatment focuses on managing complications related to the disease.

Research shows that 40% of babies born with Myotonic Dystrophy do not make it out of the hospital. Even though Marno has gone through so much in his short life, he always gives the nicest hugs and kisses, and is an amazing little boy… He will be facing major challenges in his future going forward, but with God, family, and friends, he will overcome each one as they come.

Marno and his mother will have major ongoing medical expenses:
Speech Therapy – R244.00 twice a month.
Occupational Therapy – R216.00 four times a month.
Music Therapy – R190.00 twice a month.
Physio Therapy – R219.00 once a month.
Swim Therapy – R420.00 ones a month.

The above amounts are without any doctors appointments or monthly medication that he would need. By supporting our bracelet fundraising initiative for Marno, you can help make a significant difference in the life of this precious family.
