Joshua Goosen was born with Smith Lemli Opitz Syndrome; diagnosed 2 weeks after birth. He is now nearly 11 years old and has been PEG fed from birth, and still wears diapers.
Josh is on formula and needs 5 egg yolks daily to keep up his cholesterol levels. There is an option of freeze-dried egg yolks, which would be a safer, more convenient way of introducing yolk to his diet. His blood needs to be tested to see if feeds are right for his liver, because he has been struggling with diarrhea since January after the change to a more affordable formula.
Josh has Microchephaly, therefore there is a lot of uncertainty about what the future holds. He only started walking at age 7 and can not walk long distances, tires very quickly, and might need foot surgery in the future. A “special needs pram” will be a blessing at this stage.
He also needs to go for blood tests on a regular basis; this is quite expensive and due to only having a hospital plan, is difficult to get done. They are waiting for a letter from his doctor to get special authorisation from the medical aid to have him admitted to the hospital to have tests done, and to get a new Mic-key feeding tube.
Please help us to raise funds for Joshua to give him a chance at a better quality life and brighter future. Together we can change his world, one bracelet at a time.
